5 UX Mistakes That Are Quietly Killing Your Conversions

Conversion problems rarely come from ugly design. They usually come from small friction points that add up until a user gives up.

1. Forms that ask for too much, too soon

Asking for a phone number before a user has decided they even want your product adds unnecessary friction. Progressive disclosure — asking for information only when it's needed — consistently outperforms front-loaded forms.

2. Unclear primary actions

If a page has five buttons with equal visual weight, users hesitate. Every screen should have one obvious primary action, with secondary actions visually de-emphasized.

3. No feedback after actions

Clicking a button with no visible response — no loading state, no confirmation — makes users unsure if anything happened, and many will click again or leave entirely.

4. Error messages that don't explain the fix

"Invalid input" tells a user nothing useful. Good error messages state exactly what's wrong and how to fix it.

5. Ignoring mobile-specific behavior

Designs that work on desktop but weren't actually tested on real mobile devices often have tap targets too small or text too dense to comfortably read on a phone screen.
